Betty Grenig is 101 years old today and has been a Red Cross volunteer for 80+ years. She started volunteering in 1937, knitting socks for service members—simply because her mother told her to.
"The Red Cross needed socks for the military, and I could knit, and my friends could knit. My mother knew this, so we knit lots and lots of socks,” shared Betty.
Since then, Betty has:
Traveled to Japan, Korea and the Philippines to care for wounded soldiers and teach them how to knit.
Responded to local disasters and helped people alongside the American Red Cross Arizona.
Donated 25 gallons of blood and supported dozens of blood drives.
Collected several recognition pins and awards for her volunteer work.
To this day, Betty regularly visits her local Red Cross chapter to put together disaster recovery packets and deliver homemade desserts to the staff and volunteers. A tradition she has continued for the past 40 years.
Let’s give it up for Betty and her exceptional milestones.
