1000x667 | Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office
This morning at around 8:30 am the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office along with multiple other agencies responded to a report of someone shot inside Wilson High School. This was ultimately determined to be a hoax. The source of the hoax is currently being investigated.
This situation was very upsetting to some students as well as parents. While this turned out to be a hoax, at the time it was very real to those involved. The following is some information we would like to share:
1. The Sheriff’s Department received the call at 8:33 am
2. The call specified someone had been shot in “Geography" class
3. The SRO Deputy arrived at the class room within 20 seconds of being notified.
4. The first back up patrol units began arriving within 3 minutes of the initial call.
5. A massive multi-agency law enforcement response was generated with approx. 50-60 officers on scene.
6. After the initial sweep of the school (elementary and high), deputies and officers went door to door checking classrooms.
7. School safety measures and lock down procedures worked very well.
Thank you to the parents, some of whom were very worried and scared, for remaining calm as you arrived at school. The Wilson School Faculty did an amazing job looking after your children. We also appreciate the many law enforcement agencies that responded to assist the Sheriff’s Department.
