City of Florence recently issued the following announcement.
Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts will exhibit Dr. Hisham Ba’albaki’s recent series of paintings from August 16th through September 25th in the Kennedy-Douglass Main and Annex galleries.
The Shape of Joy exhibit features acrylic paintings on canvas and paper as well as mixed media works.
Dr. Ba’albaki is a self-taught artist that began painting in recent years as a counterbalance to his professional work as a cardiologist here in the Shoals, where he has lived since 1990.
Dr. Ba’albaki’s work is abstract, dynamic, and expressive - he prefers acrylic paint because “it lends itself to experimentation, mixed media, layering, paint transfer and gel printing techniques to name a few.”
Other features that characterize his work include heavy texturing and the use of forceful mark making on relativity large canvas or paper surfaces. His palette is typically bright and limited.
Dr. Ba'albaki has generously granted all proceeds from artwork sales to the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts.
