Cost of college went up for all students at the University of North Alabama

In-state tuition and fees rose 19.6 percent for 2018-19 at the University of North Alabama, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Alabama residents paid $10,142 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $1,662 more than the $8,480 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 81.9 percent more than residents this year, or $18,452. Their price tag grew 22 percent from $15,128 in 2017-18.

About 84 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Alabama residents. About 13 percent are residents of other states and 3 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 94 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 908 students received grants or scholarships totaling $5.9 million and 760 students took out student loans totaling more than $6.4 million.

Including all undergraduates (7,488), 4,170 students used grants or scholarships totaling $26.4 million, and 3,496 students took out $23.1 million in federal student loans.
